HotHands rechargeable hand warmers recall: model H163650, refund (Oct 2026)
On October 1, 2026, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced that Kobayashi Consumer Products, LLC is recalling about 77,000 HotHands® rechargeable hand warmers in the United States (about 72 were also sold in Canada). The lithium-ion battery and electrical components can overheat and ignite, posing a fire and burn hazard. ShopperCove did not examine any of these warmers. Everything below comes from the CPSC recall notice (recall number 27-011) and Kobayashi’s HotHands recall notice, both read on 5 October 2026.

The recall at a glance
From the CPSC notice:
- Product: HotHands® Rechargeable Hand Warmers — white with orange units sold in packs of two that can be magnetically joined; USB-C charging; LED heat indicators; silicone lanyard included.
- Model: H163650 (printed on the underside). Batch number is also on the underside.
- Hazard: lithium-ion battery and electrical components can overheat and ignite → fire and burn risk.
- Units: about 77,000 (U.S.); about 72 in Canada.
- Remedy: refund.
- Sold: Bass Pro Shops, Meijer, Target, The Home Depot and other stores nationwide, and online including Amazon.com, from July 2025 through August 2026, for about $30–$40.
- Incidents/injuries: none reported (CPSC).
- Distributor: Kobayashi Consumer Products, LLC, of Dalton, Georgia. Made in China.
- Recall number: 27-011.
CPSC states that only electric rechargeable hand warmers with the white HotHands logo are included. Kobayashi’s site adds: this recall does not involve HotHands air-activated (non-rechargeable) hand warmers.
Why Kobayashi says it recalled these units
Kobayashi’s recall notice says a recall was announced for OCOOPA brand rechargeable hand warmers over lithium-ion overheating/ignition risk (CPSC recall 26-659 referenced on that page). Although Kobayashi reports no incidents or injuries for HotHands rechargeable units, it says the HotHands rechargeable warmers share the identical lithium-ion battery and electrical components, so the company is recalling them in cooperation with CPSC. That is vendor/CPSC context — not a ShopperCove lab finding.
What to do if you have one
CPSC and Kobayashi instructions (5 Oct 2026 wording):
- Stop using the warmer immediately.
- Go to hothands.com/recall-notice-rechargeable and register for a refund claim to get a claim number.
- Write “Recalled” and the claim number in permanent marker on the product.
- Submit photos showing the marked warmer, the model number, and the four-digit batch number (and a receipt photo if available).
- After the claim, dispose of the lithium-ion device per local/state hazardous-waste rules — not household trash, curbside recycling, or typical retail battery drop boxes for ordinary used batteries. Contact your municipal HHW center first and ask whether it accepts recalled lithium-ion batteries.
How to reach Kobayashi / Sedgwick, as listed by CPSC:
- Phone: 866-534-9986, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday.
