ABC Trading squishy / water-bead toys recall (1 Oct 2026): ~37,000 units

On October 1, 2026, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced that ABC Trading is recalling about 37,000 Squishy Dumpling Toys and Crazy Squib Ball Toys because the water beads inside can expand larger than permitted. ShopperCove did not examine any of these toys. Everything below comes from the CPSC recall notice (recall number 27-003), read on 5 October 2026.

The recall at a glance

From the CPSC notice:

  • Products:

- Squishy Dumpling Toys, model 3655 — multiple translucent colors with glitter and water beads; cartoon face; packaged in a tan plastic container shaped like a bamboo steamer. “SQUISHY DUMPLING” is printed on the front of the removable package labeling. No markings on the product other than the cartoon face. - Crazy Squib Ball Toys, model 3984 — multiple translucent colors with glitter and water beads; individually wrapped in white netting. “CRAZY SQUIB BALL” and “Squeeze it! Throw it!” are printed on the package labeling.

  • Hazard: the toys violate the mandatory safety standard for toys because the water beads inside expand larger than permitted, posing a deadly ingestion hazard. If a water bead is ingested, it can pose ingestion, choking, and intestinal obstruction hazards inside a child’s body, with severe discomfort, vomiting, dehydration, and a risk of death.
  • Units: about 37,000.
  • Remedy: full refund.
  • Sold: at ABC Trading stores in Los Angeles, California, and other stores nationwide from April 2026 through June 2026 for between 41 cents and $1.25.
  • Incidents: none reported.
  • Importer: ABC Trading Inc., of Vernon, California. Made in China.
  • Recall number: 27-003.

CPSC’s notice does not list a specific age range (for example “ages 3+”) for these two models. The hazard language refers to risks inside a child’s body. Treat any of these toys in a home with young children as recalled, not as safe play.

What to do if you have one

CPSC’s instructions:

  1. Stop using the squishy toys immediately.
  2. Write “RECALLED” in permanent marker on the toys.
  3. Throw the toys away.
  4. Email a photo of the disposed toy to recallabc@gmail.com for a full refund.

How to reach ABC Trading, as listed by CPSC:

  • Email: recallabc@gmail.com

Keep a copy of the disposal photo and any store receipt if you still have one. The CPSC notice does not say whether a receipt is required.

Why water beads in squish toys are a problem

CPSC’s point is not that every soft toy is unsafe. It is that water beads that expand past the allowed size create a real risk if a child swallows one: choking and intestinal blockage, with vomiting, dehydration, and in severe cases death. This article is not medical advice. If a child may have swallowed a water bead, contact a doctor or poison control right away and mention the bead.

Do not resell recalled toys. Federal law prohibits selling products subject to a Commission-ordered recall or a voluntary recall undertaken with CPSC.

Quick checklist

  • Find every Squishy Dumpling (model 3655, bamboo-steamer pack) and Crazy Squib Ball (model 3984, white netting) in the house.
  • Stop using them.
  • Mark “RECALLED,” dispose of them, and email a photo to recallabc@gmail.com for a refund.
  • Do not sell or give away a recalled unit.

This article will not update automatically. For the current wording, use the CPSC notice.
