Will eBay's Currency Fee Hike Hit Cross-Border Sellers?

eBay is raising the seller currency conversion charge by 0.25 points, starting 14 October 2026 for US and Canada sellers, then Australia on 1 November and the UK on 1 December. Who pays only when eBay converts funds, and how to reprice before each date.

eBay's selling fee pages now say the seller currency conversion charge for sellers registered in the United States and Canada rises from 3% to 3.25% on 14 October 2026 when eBay converts funds for an item listed or sold on another eBay site. Value Added Resource reported the quiet fee-page notices on 3 October 2026, and SuanSupply's 5 October roundup confirmed the same US and Canada date plus Australia's move from 3% to 3.25% on 1 November 2026 and the UK's move from 2.5% to 2.75% on 1 December 2026.

Will that hike hit cross-border sellers? Only if eBay actually converts currency on your sales. Home-site, same-currency volume is untouched. Here is who pays, how the staggered calendar works mid-peak, and what to do before each effective date.

What changed on the fee pages

Unlike many 2026 fee changes that arrived with a Seller Update, this one showed up as wording on regional selling fee pages. The US page states that from 14 October 2026 the fee for sellers registered in the US increases to 3.25%. Canada's page uses the same date and new rate for sellers registered in Canada. Australia and the UK follow later on their own fee pages.

The charge applies when eBay converts your funds because you listed or sold on an eBay site whose listing currency differs from your payout currency. eBay describes the transaction exchange rate as a base wholesale rate plus the conversion percentage it retains. That is separate from international fees that may already apply on cross-border sales.

Value Added Resource compared the current UK business seller fee page with an August archive and found the currency conversion line was the only rate that changed there — shop subscriptions, listing upgrades, category Final Value Fees, the UK regulatory operating fee and dispute fees stayed put. WhatSales' weekly note also flagged Germany, France, Italy and Spain moving to 3.25% on 2 December 2026, so multi-market sellers need more than one calendar reminder.

Who actually pays more

You are in scope if:

  1. You are registered in the US or Canada and sell or list on other eBay sites in other currencies (effective 14 October 2026).
  2. You are registered in Australia and eBay converts your cross-site funds (effective 1 November 2026).
  3. You are registered in the UK and eBay converts your cross-site funds (effective 1 December 2026).

You are not in scope if you only sell on your home eBay site in your home currency and eBay never converts payouts. Final Value Fees on those domestic sales are a separate topic; this article is only about the conversion add-on.

Illustrative math only: on USD 100 of proceeds that eBay converts, a 3% charge is USD 3.00 and 3.25% is USD 3.25. On a few thousand converted orders in Q4, a quarter point is real money even when each order looks like pennies. It stacks with every other fee on the same sale.

Cross-border seller checklist before each date

  1. Pull last quarter's eBay payouts and split them by currency and site. If almost nothing was converted, stop worrying and move on.
  2. For markets where conversion is common, reprice thin-margin SKUs before 14 October (US/Canada), 1 November (Australia) and 1 December (UK) rather than after the settlement surprise.
  3. Remember international fees and shipping rules are unchanged by this notice — do not "fix" the wrong line item in your calculator.
  4. If one foreign site is already marginal after ads and returns, test whether raising the foreign-site price or pausing that site beats eating the extra 0.25 points.
  5. Diarise the staggered dates. Peak season is exactly when people miss fee-page footnotes.

Multichannel angle (honest about Listimo)

When eBay takes a little more off converted revenue, some sellers push more volume toward Amazon, Shopify or their own site. That can be rational — but only if the destination channel's fees, ads and ops cost less than eBay's stack for that SKU. Amazon listings still need channel-ready images and copy; wiring more SKUs into Amazon without fixing assets just moves the problem. Our note on how Amazon product listings are made today and Listimo versus site SEO for Amazon listing drafts are about listing readiness, not about eBay fee calculators.

Listimo is an Amazon-first listing draft tool. It is not an eBay currency or fee tool. If higher eBay conversion costs push you to strengthen Amazon listings, that is a fair adjacent workflow. If you are staying eBay-only, fix prices and site mix first; do not buy an Amazon lister to solve an eBay FX line item.

Sellers already juggling Walmart inactivity rules or TikTok shopping should treat this the same way they treat any other marketplace tax: measure the affected revenue, then decide. See Walmart Marketplace brand highlights and inactive accounts and TikTok Buy Direct for sellers for parallel "is this channel still worth it?" framing.

Bottom line

eBay's currency conversion hike is small per order and large across a converted Q4 book. US and Canada sellers feel it first on 14 October 2026; Australia and the UK follow on 1 November and 1 December. If eBay never converts your funds, you can ignore the headlines. If it does, update the model before the settlement date — not after.

How this was made: facts were gathered on 9 Oct 2026 (IST) from eBay US/Canada/Australia/UK selling fee pages, Value Added Resource (3 Oct), SuanSupply (5 Oct) and WhatSales' weekly fee note, then written up with AI help and checked line by line against those sources.

Lab evidence

What I found running this

Facts checked 9 Oct 2026 (IST) against eBay US, Canada, Australia and UK selling fee pages (GET 200), Value Added Resource (3 Oct) and SuanSupply (5 Oct). Rates and dates are eBay's fee-page wording. We did not test Listimo ourselves; claims come from its sales page. Listimo is Amazon-first, not an eBay fee tool.
