Walmart Can Suspend Inactive Seller Accounts After 455 Days, Plus 5 Other Changes
Walmart Marketplace posted six seller changes between Oct. 5 and Oct. 7: suspension after 455 days of inactivity, self-service Brand Highlights for up to 500 items at a time, an upgraded Assortment Growth tool, earlier Cross Border Imports booking, easier Simplified Shipping Settings migration, and Ship with Walmart inside ShipStation. What each means and a 7-step checklist.

Walmart posted a new rule for Marketplace sellers on Oct. 5, 2026: accounts that stay inactive for 455 consecutive days may be suspended. It was one of six seller changes announced between Oct. 5 and Oct. 7, alongside self-service Brand Highlights for product pages and a Walmart shipping option inside ShipStation.
None of these is huge on its own. Together they show Walmart tidying up its marketplace before the holidays: dormant accounts are a security risk, product pages are getting richer, and shipping settings are moving to one system. Here is what changed and what to do about it.
What changed for Walmart sellers this week?
From Walmart's Marketplace Learn release notes, plus one partner announcement:
- Inactive accounts (Oct. 5). Accounts inactive for 455 consecutive days may be suspended under Walmart's Trust and Safety policy. Walmart says it will email and text sellers first, and suspended sellers can appeal within 90 days.
- Assortment Growth tool (Oct. 5). Seller Center now gives personalized product recommendations based on a growth strategy you pick or describe, with "Key insights" explaining why an item is recommended.
- Cross Border Imports scheduling (Oct. 5). Walmart Fulfillment Services users can book full container load ocean shipments up to 60 days before their cargo ready date.
- Brand Highlights (Oct. 6). Eligible brand owners can add images, videos and text to product pages themselves.
- Simplified Shipping Settings (Oct. 7). Walmart made it easier to move items off Shipping Templates and onto its newer shipping settings.
- Ship with Walmart in ShipStation (Oct. 6). ShipStation launched Walmart-negotiated shipping labels and seller protections inside its platform.
Who is at risk under the inactivity rule?
Mostly sellers who opened a Walmart account, tested it and walked away, or who pause Walmart for long stretches while selling elsewhere.
GeekSeller, a Walmart integration provider, reported that Walmart counts an account as inactive when there are no sales, no Seller Center logins and no API activity through the Developer Portal. It said Walmart will send alerts after 180, 300 and 425 days, and that an account still suspended without a successful appeal may be terminated after 545 days. Walmart's own release note says only that accounts suspended without a resolved appeal "may be terminated."
That matters because a separate recent release note updated Walmart's suspension and termination policy. It says Walmart "reserves the right to terminate qualifying seller accounts that remain suspended beyond a reasonable threshold without a successful appeal or reinstatement."
If you connect Walmart through a multichannel tool, GeekSeller noted that API activity counts as activity. Still, don't assume a connector covers you. Log in yourself now and then, and make sure the email and phone number on the account actually reach you.
What are Brand Highlights?
Brand Highlights are an extra content area on the product page where an eligible brand owner can combine images, videos and text to tell the brand story and explain the product. Walmart's note says the setup is self-service in Seller Center, content can be applied to up to 500 items at a time, and it can be revised later. Walmart says this helps customers understand the brand and product and increases conversion rates. That is Walmart's claim, so measure it on your own items.
For a small brand, the useful part is the 500-item bulk apply. One good set of brand images and a short video can be reused across a whole product line instead of being rebuilt listing by listing.
What changed for shipping?
Walmart says the updated Simplified Shipping Settings let you pick your carriers, shipping speeds (value, standard, expedited or rush), regions served and shipping charges, while Walmart calculates transit times and chooses the best fulfillment center based on your settings. Its overview guide was updated on Oct. 7.
ShipStation's Ship with Walmart, announced Oct. 6, connects to the same system. ShipStation says it offers Walmart-negotiated rates from domestic carriers, and that eligible orders shipped on time can get up to $100 of protection for lost-item claims. It also says Walmart orders sit alongside Amazon, TikTok Shop, Shopify and eBay orders in one dashboard. It covers U.S. domestic shipments only. Walmart sellers who are new to ShipStation get 20% off a ShipStation subscription for a year when they activate it.
What should you do this week?
- Log in to every Walmart account you own. Check that the contact email and phone number are current, so you actually receive any inactivity warnings.
- Decide on dormant accounts. If you don't plan to sell on Walmart, close the account on your terms. If you do, list at least one product and keep it active.
- Review your shipping setup. If you still use Shipping Templates, look at Walmart's migration guide before the holiday peak, not during it.
- Compare Ship with Walmart rates. If you already use ShipStation, compare its Walmart labels with your current carrier accounts on a few real orders.
- Check Brand Highlights eligibility. If you are a registered brand owner, see whether the option appears in Seller Center.
- Build one reusable brand set. Prepare three to five accurate images, a short product video and a brief brand story you can apply across related items. We covered what makes a product video work in our Shopify product page video checklist, and most of it applies to Walmart too.
- Treat Assortment Growth as a starting point. Check margins, fees and supply before adding a recommended product.

If you also sell the same products on Amazon, Listimo is one way to produce listing images and copy from a single phone photo. Be clear about what it is: it's built for Amazon listings, not Walmart. Its page says it creates images, sales copy, A+ content and a product video, and is built to keep the product itself unchanged. Its FAQ says the images and copy belong to you and can be used outside Amazon, naming your own shop, eBay and social media. If you reuse them on Walmart, check them against Walmart's own content rules first, and disclose AI-generated content wherever a marketplace requires it. For the video part of Brand Highlights, an animated explainer can show how a product works when filming isn't practical. VidToon's sales page describes a 2D animated explainer video maker with ready-made characters, Google and Microsoft text-to-speech voices and a commercial license. Tools that help
- Listimo, AI listing builder for Amazon sellers. Its page lists a Seller Pack of 1,800 credits for $229, which it says covers around 10 complete listings, as a one-time payment, plus a free listing check by ASIN with no sign-up. It says it doesn't guarantee Amazon will accept generated content. Listimo link: Open link
- VidToon, 2D animated explainer videos. Its lifetime page lists $49 as a one-time payment, says the price will move to $67 a month after the launch special, and promises a fix or a full refund if you have problems. VidToon link: Open link
How this was made: facts were gathered on 8 Oct 2026 (IST) from Walmart's Marketplace Learn release notes and guides, ShipStation's announcement and GeekSeller's report listed below, then written up with AI help and checked line by line against those sources. ShopperCove did not test any of the new Walmart features on a live seller account for this article.
