Open Google Search Console, go to Indexing → Sitemaps, enter your sitemap URL and click Submit. You can also add a Sitemap: line to your robots.txt so Google finds it on its own.

Before you submit

Make sure the sitemap is reachable at a public URL, uses absolute URLs, and lists only canonical pages you want indexed. A single sitemap can hold up to 50,000 URLs or 50 MB uncompressed.

Submit in Search Console

  1. Verify your property.
  2. Open the Sitemaps report.
  3. Paste the sitemap URL and press Submit.
  4. Check the status column for "Success" and the number of discovered URLs.

Add it to robots.txt

Sitemap: https://www.example.com/sitemap.xml

Submitting does not guarantee indexing

Google uses the sitemap as a hint. Pages still need to be worth indexing.

What I found running this

Facts in this draft were checked on 12 Oct 2026 against the primary sources listed in the body (official docs, release schedules or Google/YouTube help pages). No benchmarks or timings were run, so the post makes no performance or measurement claims; dates are quoted as published by the maintainers, and any estimate is labelled as such.
