On 27 August 2026, YouTube said Amazon had joined the YouTube Shopping Affiliate Program, so eligible US creators can tag Amazon products in Shorts, long-form videos and livestreams. A later YouTube Blog post on 23 September 2026 said Shopping tags drive more than twice as many clicks as links in the description, which is why the Amazon tagging launch matters for both creators and the sellers whose listings get that traffic.
Can YouTube creators tag Amazon products now? For eligible US creators who meet YouTube's Shopping and Amazon program rules, yes. Everyone else still waits on eligibility, account linking and product availability in the tagger. Here's what YouTube announced, who qualifies, how tagging works and what Amazon sellers should fix before creator traffic hits their pages.
What YouTube announced
Travis Katz, YouTube's general manager and VP for Shopping, wrote that Amazon is officially part of the YouTube Shopping Affiliate Program. Eligible US creators can tag Amazon products in Shorts, long-form videos and livestreams so viewers can buy from creators they already trust. TubeFilter's same-day write-up matched that framing: YouTube is adding Amazon as a Shopping affiliate partner for product tagging, not only for description links.
At Made On YouTube on 23 September 2026, YouTube repeated the Amazon US tagging news and said it was expanding that capability to India and Brazil in the coming weeks, with more countries before year-end. The same post said the affiliate program had more than 1.3 million participants and that Shopping GMV grew 13x over two years. YouTube also said it plans to expand the affiliate program to 35 countries by the end of the year and to localise tags for international viewers while still helping creators earn on eligible global sales.
That is a platform story, not a guarantee that every niche creator can monetise every ASIN tomorrow. Tagging still depends on eligibility, linked accounts and which products appear in the picker.
Who can tag Amazon products
YouTube Help's page on tagging Amazon products with YouTube Shopping lists the gates. To tag and earn commissions you must be enrolled in the YouTube Partner Program and in the YouTube Shopping affiliate program in the United States, Brazil or India.
For creators in the United States, YouTube also requires an active Amazon Influencer Program or Amazon Associates Program account in good standing, plus a linked YouTube channel. Creators who are not yet in those Amazon programs can sign up and link during signup. Creators who already have an Amazon affiliate or influencer account link through the Amazon Storefront portal. YouTube notes that accounts linked before September 2024 need to be re-linked, and that only one YouTube channel per Amazon account can be eligible to tag Amazon products.
After linking, there can be a delay before tagging is enabled; YouTube says creators get a Studio notification when the account is ready. If tagging is later disabled, Help points to a closed Amazon program account or an unlinked channel as the usual causes.
How tagging works in practice
YouTube Studio's product picker is the main tool. Creators choose from Amazon products available to tag. If a product is missing, YouTube tells creators to contact Creator Support with the product URL. Auto-tagging can also identify eligible Amazon products on recent and future uploads when enabled, though YouTube says tags may be updated or removed after quality checks.
Tagged Amazon performance shows up in YouTube Studio Analytics as clicks and estimated revenue. Finalised earnings pay through AdSense with other YouTube Affiliate payments. Help describes a monthly lock cycle, with an example that January-locked earnings pay in the March AdSense cycle, and notes that returns can create temporary negative balances that roll forward.
All of that still sits under YouTube's tagging guidelines, community guidelines and branded-content policy. A tag is not a free pass for undisclosed selling.
Why the click claim matters
YouTube's 23 September post said Shopping tags drive more than twice as many clicks as description links, and that tags also open monetisation on Shorts and living-room surfaces. That is YouTube's own study claim, not an independent audit, but it explains the product push: in-video commerce beats burying a URL under the fold.
For creators, the practical implication is to treat tags as a first-class CTA and keep titles, thumbnails and opening seconds honest so watch time does not collapse after the click. Our piece on whether YouTube thumbnails still matter in 2026 covers how YouTube judges clickbait by watch time, which still applies when the click leads to Amazon.
The seller angle: listing readiness for creator traffic
Creators can only sell what your Amazon listing can convert. If the main image fails policy, the title is truncated nonsense, A+ is empty or the detail page disagrees with the video's claims, tagged traffic bounces. Sellers who want creator coverage should:
- Confirm the ASIN is healthy, searchable and in stock in the markets creators will send.
- Match claims in creator briefs to the live detail page, ingredients, sizes and warranties.
- Upgrade images and A+ so a mobile shopper landing from a Short sees the same product story the creator told. Our note on whether Amazon A+ content still works in 2026 is a useful companion.
- Decide whether you will seed creators with samples, paid integrations or organic tagging only, and keep disclosures clean on both sides.
- Watch returns and Q&A spikes after a large creator posts; affiliate commissions cut both ways when returns land.
YouTube's Help page also says it may match a tagged product to a local merchant offer for international viewers when available. Sellers with global catalogs should expect some traffic to resolve outside the US storefront.
What we cannot promise
YouTube has not published a public, per-niche conversion rate for Amazon tags. Eligibility rules can change, product availability in the picker is not every ASIN, and Amazon program standing is outside YouTube's control. Treat "creators can tag Amazon now" as true for the eligible cohort YouTube described, not as a universal switch for every channel or every seller.
Practical next steps
Creators: check Partner Program and Shopping affiliate enrollment, link or re-link Amazon Influencer or Associates, wait for the Studio enable notification, then test tags on a video where the product is central to the content.
Sellers: prepare a creator-ready ASIN pack (images, claims, stock, A+), decide outreach rules, and monitor Studio-referred traffic patterns if creators share them.
Amazon on YouTube Shopping is live for the eligible US group YouTube named. The opportunity is real; the homework is eligibility on the creator side and listing quality on the seller side.
