YouTube's own rules for end screens, the exact Studio steps and how to see if viewers click.

How to add end screens on YouTube: sign in to YouTube Studio, open Content, click the video, choose Editor, then End screen, and add up to four elements such as a video, playlist or Subscribe button. End screens run in the last 5 to 20 seconds, and the video must be at least 25 seconds long.
You can also add an end screen while you upload a video.
YouTube Help lists these elements:
Videos with a standard 16:9 aspect ratio can have up to four elements; other aspect ratios may allow fewer.
End screens can cover the last 5 to 20 seconds of a video. YouTube's best practices are to plan for the last 20 seconds while you edit, so the elements have room, to feature things relevant to the video, to use clear calls to action, and to consider timing elements to appear at different moments.
The most common reasons in YouTube Help:
Even when an end screen is set up, viewers do not see it on mobile web (iPad mobile web is the exception) or in the YouTube Music and YouTube Kids apps, and viewers can choose to hide end screens.
Info cards can appear at any point during a video, with a short teaser, and you can add up to five per video. End screens only appear at the end. Neither is available on videos set as made for kids.
In YouTube Studio, open the video's Analytics, select Engagement and scroll to "End screen element click rate". At channel level, the "Top end screen element types" card compares element types.
How many end screen elements can I add? Up to four on a standard 16:9 video.
Can I link to my website from an end screen? Only if your channel is in the YouTube Partner Program, and the site must follow YouTube's policies.
Do end screens show on phones? They do not show on mobile web, except on iPad. YouTube also says an end screen may not always show, or may look different, depending on device and context.
Lab evidence
Steps and limits in this guide were checked on 18 Oct 2026 against two YouTube Help pages (adding end screens, and end screen reports). I did not run a fresh channel test for this post, so the four-element limit, the 5 to 20 second window and the 25-second minimum are quoted exactly as YouTube publishes them.
