YouTube Analytics is the reporting section of YouTube Studio that shows how your channel and each video perform: views, impressions, click-through rate, watch time, audience and, for Partner Program members, revenue. You open it from YouTube Studio by choosing Analytics in the left menu, or from a single video's Analytics link.

The tabs, in plain terms

  • Overview: a summary, including Realtime and typical performance
  • Content: impressions and how they led to watch time, by content type
  • Reach (video level): impressions, impressions click-through rate, views and unique viewers
  • Engagement (video level): watch time, average view duration and engaged views
  • Audience: monthly audience, subscribers and new, casual and regular viewers
  • Revenue: estimated earnings if you are in the YouTube Partner Program
  • Trends: what your audience and viewers across YouTube are searching for

YouTube notes it began gradually rolling out an updated YouTube Studio in July 2026, so your layout may differ.

The metrics to check first

  1. Impressions click-through rate: are the title and thumbnail earning clicks?
  2. Average view duration and retention: do viewers stay?
  3. Traffic sources: search, suggested or external?

Compare with yourself

Judge a new video against your channel's typical performance, not against large channels.

FAQ

Where do you open YouTube Analytics? In YouTube Studio, choose Analytics in the left menu, or open Analytics from a single video.

What is impressions click-through rate? It is the share of impressions that became views, and it mainly reflects how well the title and thumbnail earn clicks.

Do you need the Partner Program to use Analytics? No. Core performance tabs are available without it; the Revenue tab needs Partner Program membership.

What I found running this

Facts in this draft were checked on 12 Oct 2026 against the primary sources listed in the body (official docs, release schedules or Google/YouTube help pages). No benchmarks or timings were run, so the post makes no performance or measurement claims; dates are quoted as published by the maintainers, and any estimate is labelled as such.

  • Do YouTube Thumbnails Still Matter in 2026?

YouTube says half of all channels and videos have an impressions click-through rate between 2% and 10%, and its own A/B tests now pick winners by watch time, not clicks. What YouTube says, where feed previews and Shorts reduce the thumbnail's role, what testing shows about style, and how to decide how much effort to spend.

  • How Are YouTube Thumbnails Made Today?

A 2026 YouTube thumbnail might be a picked frame, a designed image or an AI draft from Ask Studio, and it is increasingly chosen by a watch-time test rather than a hunch. The official specs, three ways thumbnails get made, what changed for Shorts in July 2026, how Test & Compare picks a winner and an eight-step workflow.
