Node.js 22 reaches end of life on 30 April 2027. It has been in Maintenance LTS since 21 October 2025, so it gets only critical fixes until then.
The Node.js project says LTS lines typically get critical bug fixes for a total of 30 months, and that production apps should only use Active LTS or Maintenance LTS releases. In maintenance, expect security and critical fixes, not new features. After end of life, commercial support is available only through OpenJS Ecosystem Sustainability Program partners.
Node 24 is the low-risk upgrade today, with support until April 2028. If you can wait a few weeks, Node 26 becomes LTS on 28 October and gives you a year more. Our Node.js 26 LTS schedule explainer covers that release-line change.
Yes. It is in Maintenance LTS until 30 April 2027.
Only once Node 26 reaches LTS on 28 October 2026, if your dependencies support it. Before that, it is a Current release.
On 30 April 2026.

Read the Node.js previous-releases page and the official schedule.json in the nodejs/Release repository on 10 Oct 2026, and rechecked that the sources load on 11 Oct 2026. Every date comes from those pages. We did not run any Node 22 to 24 or 26 upgrade or compatibility test, so the checklist is planning guidance, not a test report.
