How the Next.js support policy applies to version 16.
Aditya Challa1 min read
Next.js 16 is supported for two years after its October 2025 release, so it should leave Maintenance LTS around October 2027. Vercel's support policy keeps each major in Maintenance LTS for two years following its initial release.
The latest major is Active LTS and receives features, fixes and security patches. When a new major ships, the previous one becomes Maintenance LTS and gets critical fixes and security patches only, until two years after its own initial release.
Vercel does not publish a fixed day in advance, so treat the exact day as an estimate.
If you are on Next.js 15, its support ends in October 2026, so upgrading to 16 now is the safer path.
