Meta's New AI Video Ad Tools: What Small Advertisers Should Do Now
At Advertising Week New York on Oct. 6, Meta made static-to-video generally available in Advantage+ creative, expanded Ads Creative Studio, opened Customer Lifecycle Strategy to all advertisers and began checkout tests in Messenger and Meta AI. What is live, what is a test, and a six-step plan for small advertisers.

Meta said on Oct. 6, 2026, at Advertising Week New York, that advertisers can now turn existing static images into video ads with Advantage+ creative, a feature it says is generally available. Meta's reason is simple: it says more than 60% of the time people spend on Facebook and Instagram is spent watching video.
The same announcement brought a broader rollout of Ads Creative Studio, new agentic features for Meta's AI business assistant, a customer-exclusion tool for every advertiser, and checkout tests inside Messenger and Meta AI. Here is what is live, what is still a test, and how a small advertiser should use it without handing the whole account to automation.
What did Meta announce?
From Meta's Oct. 6 post:
- Static to video. In Advantage+ creative, advertisers and agencies can generate video from existing static assets. Meta calls this generally available.
- Video variations. In Ads Creative Studio, marketers can generate new video concepts and variations, then change hooks, adjust audio and clip length, add text overlays and captions, or swap end scenes. The studio itself, introduced this summer, is now rolling out to more advertisers.
- Catalog video. Catalog advertisers can turn product images into product video at scale. That part is for eligible beta advertisers, through Advantage+ creative video generation in Ads Manager and the product video creator in Commerce Manager.
- A more hands-on assistant. Meta says advertisers who adopt its AI business assistant's recommendations typically see 5% more conversions at the same cost per conversion. It is now testing features that let you plan and create a campaign, generate images and text, update targeting or change a budget by asking, with previews and approvals before anything runs.
- Customer Lifecycle Strategy for everyone. Mark a campaign as acquisition and Meta will recommend excluding existing customers, so you aren't paying to reach people who already buy from you.
- Checkout in chat. Meta is testing direct checkout with Shopify inside Meta Business Agent on Messenger, and says it will test checkout with Adyen, PayPal, Shopify and Stripe in Meta AI this fall.
MediaPost noted that the business assistant first rolled out to all advertisers in April. Social Samosa reported that AI audience discovery, where you describe your ideal customer in plain language, is expected in Detailed Targeting by the end of the year.
What is live, and what is still a test?
That matters more than the headlines. Static-to-video in Advantage+ creative and Customer Lifecycle Strategy are available now. Catalog product video is beta for eligible advertisers. The agentic assistant features, the single-label customer exclusion and checkout in Meta AI are tests. AI audience discovery is promised by year end. If you don't see a feature in your account yet, that's expected.
Why does it matter for small advertisers?
Video has been the expensive part of Meta ads for small shops. If one good product photo can now become several short videos, making test videos gets much cheaper. You still pay for the ad spend to test them.
But cheap variations aren't the same as a clear message. AI-generated motion from a still image can make an ad more eye-catching. It can't show how your product works, why it's better than the alternative, or what happens after someone buys, unless you give it that material. The advertisers who benefit most will be the ones who already know what their ad needs to say.
There is also a control question. Meta says previews, approvals and controls let you decide what to hand off. Use them. An assistant that can change budgets and targeting by request is useful, and it can also turn a small mistake into an expensive one.
What should you do this week?
- Start with your best static ad. Generate video versions from the image that already performs best, then run the video and the static ad against each other with a small budget. Judge them on cost per result, not views.
- Check every frame before it runs. Make sure the product's color, shape, size and labels match what customers will receive, and that any text overlay is accurate.
- Turn on Customer Lifecycle Strategy for acquisition campaigns. Excluding existing customers from campaigns meant to find new ones is one of the easiest ways to stop wasting spend.
- Keep approvals on. If you get access to the agentic assistant, approve changes yourself, and use the scheduled weekly summaries to see what changed.
- Make one video that explains the product. A 30 to 60 second explainer, covering the problem, how it works and what to do next, gives Meta's tools something better to remix and gives buyers a real reason to click. We covered what makes a product video work in our Shopify product page video checklist.
- Clean up your catalog. Catalog video and checkout in chat both depend on accurate product data. Fix titles, images, prices and stock now if you sell through Shopify or another connected platform.

If you want to make that explainer yourself instead of hiring an animator, a template-based animation tool is a low-cost way to start. VidToon's sales page describes it as a 2D animated explainer video maker with ready-made characters, Google and Microsoft text-to-speech voices and a commercial license. ShopperCove did not test it for this article. VidToon link: Open link (affiliate link)
For a hand-drawn whiteboard look, InstaDoodle's sales page says it turns text prompts into doodle explainer videos for YouTube, Instagram, Facebook or TikTok. ShopperCove did not test it either. InstaDoodle link: Open link (affiliate link)
Tools that help
- VidToon, 2D animated explainer videos. Its lifetime page lists $49 as a one-time payment, says the price will move to $67 a month after the launch special, and promises a fix or a full refund if you have problems. VidToon link: Open link
- InstaDoodle, AI doodle and whiteboard videos. Its offer page lists 1,000+ doodle characters and elements, 14 project templates and a 60-day money-back guarantee. The price depends on your country and is shown at checkout. InstaDoodle link: Open link
